Levi Jordan Plantation

Dorothy Cotton

This section on Dorothy Cotton is written in the third person because she didn't write it – but at some point, when she takes a break from being a teacher, wife and mother to college student Melissa and University of Texas grad (and Apple Computer employee) Michael, we hope these words will change to HER words! She also serves as the Vice-President of the Levi Jordan Plantation Board of Directors.

Dorothy is a direct descendant of Levi Jordan. Along with her sisters Eloise and Nancy and her cousin Judge, she owns the Levi Jordan Plantation. Several years ago they leased the plantation and its grounds to the Levi Jordan Plantation Historical Society for a period of 99 years, so, while they still own the plantation, all activities at the site are controlled by the society. Dorothy spent much time at the plantation while growing up, and is very committed to making sure that the stories of all of the people who lived and worked on the plantation are told.

She is also a special education teacher and teaches in the Early Childhood Center in Angleton, Texas. She is very involved in issues concerning physically and mentally challenged individuals. For her own account of her family's history, go to "My Family History", by Dorothy Cotton.
