Levi Jordan
Plantation

PHOTO GALLERY

Well, the beginnings of one, anyway. It's still a work in progress.

Although we do have lots of photos on this web site, many of them are sort of small because we wanted to make sure the pages downloaded as quickly as possible. At some point in the future all of these pages will include larger versions of these images for optional downloading.

In the meantime, there are several pictures of the plantation house on the main History page. There are also some pictures of documents (a picture of part of Levi Jordan's Will, and a letter from Robert Furniss Martin, written in 1978) on the page by Ken Brown on the history of the plantation.

Pictures of the artifacts found in the quarters area in the various pages dealing with various cabin areas. You might also go to our Maps section for some site and area maps. Links below go to pages that will include larger versions of all these pictures in the future -- some are already included, but not all.

Photos from the "Curer's Cabin"
Photos from the "Shell and Bone Carver's Cabin"
Photos from the "Political Leader's Cabin"
Photos from the "Munitions Maker/Blacksmith's Cabin"

Hester Holmes, who worked on the plantation for much of her life. This picture was taken, we think, in the 1930's, when she was in her 70's. She had a big role in the lives of Dorothy Cotton's grandmother, as well as in the early childhood of Ewing Martin, who remembers her very well.

The Martin Brothers, sometimes called the "Martin Boys".

The only picture we have of any member of the African-American ancestor community is the one of Hester Holmes, shown above. We hope that as members of the descendant community see this web site they will want to add some of their family pictures to this web site. If you are interested in doing this, please contact me (Carol McDavid) or Ginny Raska and we will (gratefully) figure out a way to make that happen.

We need your help to make this site better! Please tell us what you think by going to:
